Wines by Missing Gate
Unblended still English wines made from the finest grapes.
Our sophisticated white wines are dry in style with a focus on the inherent fruit characteristics.
We believe in the potential for English still wine, and our vision has always been to create a range of wines that compete on the world stage.
Tim Atkin/Tom Hewson 2022 England Special Report
Missing Gate Vineyard Pinot Blanc 2020 Essex fruit, made at Itasca wines. No doubt the finest Pinot Blanc ever produced in this country, and probably one of the most exciting whites, full stop. An inviting, involving set of flavours, the richness of toasted oat and white pepper spice from barrel work sitting just perfectly with the fruit, which combines the ripeness of fleshy white peach and pear with pale tropicals with a terrific energy and length. Some real drama on the palate here – how often can we say that about Pinot Blanc? One of the most exciting finds this year.

Late Opening Thursdays - Free Nibbles!
We now open late on Thursday evenings, with a closing time of 9pm. We’ll be offering complimentary nibbles to accompany a beautifully chilled glass of wine. For a limited time, we’ll be pouring our new 2024 Rosé from magnum bottles.
A note from the winemaker: Missing Gate’s estate-grown, 100% Pinot Noir Rosé 2024 is made with the same care and attention as our red wines. The grapes are carefully destemmed and gently pressed to give just the right amount of colour. In the glass, it proudly wears this DNA on its sleeve – this is no rosé trying to be something else.
Bright aromas of red currants and a whiff of wild meadows give way to a flavour extravaganza of wild strawberry and summer roses, all wrapped up in a cranberry acidity that doesn’t overpower the fruit, but riffs off it.
To be drunk at -10°C if you wish, but a still cool 8-10°C will ensure it not only refreshes, but keeps you enthralled too. This is not poolside pale – this is Essex Rosé.

New English vineyard, cultivated for generations
We are a family run business, with a background in farming and food-technology.
We want to produce world-class still English wines at Missing Gate with no compromise between quality and sustainability.
Since 2018 we have taken the long term approach to cultivating our vineyard, investing and experimenting with many different disease and climate resistance varieties of grapes before selecting the best vines for the wine and our environment.
We have also used our background in food processing technologies (food-physics.com) to help steer the use of new green technology solutions that helps to get greater yields from the grapes and improve the quality of the wine.
Encouraged by our initial success, we’ve continued expanding the vineyard and making great new English still wines.
At home on our vineyard
Known as the ‘salt-marsh stretch of Essex’ our family have been growing crops on our clay-based farm in the Crouch Valley for three generations.
A knowledge of the land and a family passion for wine combined to create the Missing Gate Vineyard in 2018 giving over traditional arable land to planting our first vines.
As a family working together to create a business it’s been hugely rewarding and we’re proud to join the growing family of neighbouring vineyards on the ‘Essex Riviera’ making a name for still English wines.
